Hey there! I’m Hyejung — a Korea-based traveler, lifelong learner, and someone who believes life’s too short not to have fun 😄
Over the years, I’ve studied English, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish — so I know exactly what it feels like to stare at a new language and think, “Will I ever actually get this?” That mix of excitement and frustration? I’ve been through it, more than once. And that’s what gave me the idea: what if I could use all of that experience to help people learn Korean in a way that’s genuinely fun and easy?
Here’s the thing about me — I’m really bad at keeping good things to myself. When I find an incredible Korean drama, a hidden travel spot, or a restaurant where only locals eat, my first thought is always, “I need to tell someone about this.” So I wanted to create a space where I could share all of those discoveries with people around the world who are curious about Korea — the real Korea, not just the surface-level stuff.
And that’s how Funknori was born.
The name might sound a little unusual, so let me break it down: Fun + K (Korea) + Nori (from the Korean word “놀이,” meaning “play”) = Let’s have fun exploring Korean culture!

“This is the view from my home — yes, this is Korea too.”
I’ve lived through Korea’s incredible transformation with my own eyes. As a kid, I felt the energy of the 1988 Seoul Olympics sweep through the country. In college, I was right there in that legendary sea of red during the 2002 World Cup, when the entire nation came together as one. I spent over 15 years in the corporate world, and now I run my own businesses both online and offline. So when I talk about Korea — its past, its present, and how real Koreans actually live — I’m not reading from a guidebook. I’m sharing what I’ve actually lived.
Here’s what you can look forward to on Funknori:
🌿 K-Lifestyle Korean daily life, food, travel, and the latest trends — but not the same recycled information you’ve already seen everywhere. I’m here to share the kind of hidden gems that only someone truly living this life can offer. Secret spots that even most Koreans don’t know about, real local restaurants where tourists never go, and tips that only insiders know. Get ready to see a Korea you’ve never seen before 😎
🎬 K-Screen I’ve been watching Korean dramas and movies with genuine passion for over 40 years, so my recommendation list never runs out. From what’s trending on Netflix right now to amazing works that the world hasn’t discovered yet — I’ll pick the best ones for you through the eyes of a real Korean viewer. There are so many titles that will make you say, “How did I not know about this sooner?”
📚 Learn Korean As someone who has personally learned four languages, I understand exactly where learners get stuck and what makes things confusing. I’ll use that experience to bring you practical tips, useful resources, and real-life expressions that actual Koreans use every day. Not stiff textbook Korean — but the living, natural Korean that will help you truly connect with the language.
I’ll be honest — starting this blog took more courage than I expected. Writing in English rather than my native Korean is not easy at all. But the idea of keeping all these wonderful things just to myself? That felt like an even bigger waste.
So whether you don’t speak a word of Korean, or you’ve never been to the country — none of that matters. We’ll explore it all together, one step at a time, right here on Funknori. Think of me as your closest K-friend 💛
And here’s something I want to share honestly: every comment you leave truly means a lot to me. It might seem like a small thing, but a simple “Hyejung, loved this post!” is all the energy I need to keep writing. So please don’t hesitate to leave a word — and I promise to give you back content that’s really worth your time 🤙
Oh, one more thing! If there’s anything about Korea you’ve always been curious about, leave it in the comments. Your questions will directly shape what I write about next. After all, this blog isn’t just mine — it’s something we’re building together.
Alright — the doors of Funknori are officially wide open! 🚪✨
Starting with the very next post, we’re diving right in. It could be a drama recommendation you won’t find anywhere else, a Korean expression that will level up your skills, or a food spot that will completely surprise you.
Got something you’ve always wondered about Korean culture? Drop it in the comments — your curiosity might just become my next post.
See you in the next one! 👋 Welcome to Funknori — let’s have some fun!
